Chinese embroidery culture goes back to ancient times. In the history of thousands of years of Chinese civilization, flourishing embroidery culture influenced the world through land-based Silk Road and maritime Silk Road. It also makes embroidery the most Chinese cultural form, as Chinese jade, pottery and porcelain, painting and so on. Chinese embroidery culture is lush and heavy, no less than Dunhuang culture. At present, the material accumulation in the Chinese society is rich. National culture and education generally improved, life is very stable. The concept of protection and restoration of traditional arts and culture enjoys popular support. However, the utilitarian culture which emphasizes production and despises culture and overemphasizes short-term economic benefits still leads to the rapid loss of Chinese embroidery culture and skills. The industrial mode of mass production has caused various problems, such as the overdraft of demographic dividends, the serious homogenization of products and the weak upgrading of industries. Chinese traditional excellent embroidery art features also lopsided. Without salvage protection, it will be a great pity!
Therefore, Beijing Shao Xiaocheng Embroidery Research Institute presents the Chinese embroidery culture field “Dunhuang Odyssey” research, creation, protection, inheritance, dozens of years as one day, with sincere emotion whole-heartedly, not seeking fame and fortune. Institute set up in Beijing for many years, the main research and creative funding is the family’s wage income and pensions, as well as the transaction of our embroidery works which were originally intended to validate the historical remains of research and exhibition propaganda. It is a pity that such a cheap sale. Our institute is hard-pressed to devote itself to studying and protecting embroidery culture consciously. It is a truly “non-profit cultural institution” without its own research place. For more than 30 years, with the aim of “Research – Practice – Inheritance – Protection”, the Institute has always insisted on researching, protecting, discovering, saving and restoring the cultural heritage of handcrafted embroidery and silk weaving in China.
With all its efforts, the institute has achieved international prominence. With the development of society, we expect more and more people to realize the value of our work and give us financial support. We will use the continued enthusiasm and professional attitude to repay society’s recognition of us. Thanks a lot!
